I'm a slightly stressed-out married Mum of two lovely boys aged 11 and 9 and a gorgeous girl of 7. I work part-time, but I'm very much a full-time Mum. You can usually find me hanging around freezing to death on a touchline somewhere. Or see me running round town in glow in the dark lycra. You won't often catch me scoffing chocolate, though, I do that in private. PR friendly. mumofthreeworld@gmail.com

Ghost Gang - The New Ghost by James Parkin

'It was about half past three on a Sunday afternoon when my life as a child ended and my life as a ghost began.'

There can be few better introductions to a children's book and I was hooked from that very first sentence.

I was asked to review this book by the author and I admit I was worried. What if it wasn't very good? I would feel conflicted - wanting to be honest, but not wanting to criticise a book which I knew the author has worked so hard on for so long.

I needn't have worried. This is a brilliant children's book. The premise of a gang of ghost children helping other children is great, as is the storyline itself - of Winston, the 'new ghost'. The settings - a primary school, the park - and the situations are familiar to the readers and I'm sure children will relate to the characters. I also must admit to shedding a few tears during the story.

But don't just take it from me. Take it from a member of the target audience - my eldest son. I spent weeks trying to persuade him to read it and he refused - because it was to do with Mummy's blog and he doesn't like Mummy's blog.

He is a boy of few words and his actions speak louder than words. He didn't write much for his review, but he sat down to read the book and didn't stop until he'd finished. That is praise indeed.

Review by Boy 1 age 11

Ghost Gang is a thrilling adventure when a boy who has just died joins a group of other children who are ghosts and helps children to get rid of their problems in their dreams. He  also finds out how to treat others nicely and think before he says something. I would recommend this book for children from 8 to 12.

James Parkin is a self-published children's author. His three Ghost Gang books are available for Kindle or in paperback from his website www.bigredsock.com You can read about James's journey to self-publishing on his blog Writing from 7.
